Lagging in shifting to OD

I own a 92 Dodge with 114,000. Haven't had any problems with the auto... . yet. But have noticed that since I turned up the fuel screw that it seems to lag in shifting into OD. The first 3 gears are still quick and firm. This seems to happen when I am applying throttle and usually have to let up on the throttle and wait until it shifts, sometimes that can be a minute or more. Just a pain when getting on the highway or out running a phord choker... . lol
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Any adjustment to the cable to the transmission?

NuttyMopar,the power train control module will not let the transmission shift into over-drive if it senses the throttle is at 70 percent or greater. Check the idle setting of the throttle posistion sensor it should be 1 volt. Also verify that the transmission throttle valve cable returns all the way back at idle. The return spring will weaken over time. The end play on this cable is . 180 inches. The over-drive problems that I have experienced have all been related to the TPS.

Concur with Gene. I had the same prob with my 93. I made the most headway with cable adjustment. You can make changes even if TPS does not spec out. Mine does not, but those babies are almost 200 bucks. I decided to live with it some, but have it adjusted to work pretty well.

In an older post someone mentioned they purchased their latest TSP through autowrench.com for 60 or 70 dollars.

Thanks for all the replies. Now it is time to check on these and see what I can do to improve the shifting. It is one of those things, it runs ok so should I try it or not??? But if it ran better, then I would be smiling that much better. I figured I should at least adjust the bands since that probably hasn't been done for 70,000 miles or more.

I had TPS problems a few months ago. Before it developed, my OD would engage at any power setting, so when towing, I'd de select it until I had speed up then reduce power and engage it. Problem developed when the OD started shifting out and back in again uncommanded. Shop I went to picked up on the TPS switch, in a test drive were able to make it engage and disengage with throttle position.
Half an hour labour and now it's better than ever. OD will not engage unless I reduce power down to near 0 lb boost.
Would suggest a check of the TPS adjustment before going too deep.
