"Lamp Out" indicator??

While driving to work a couple of days ago, the "lamp out" indicator light began flashing and the warning bell began ringing. This happened while my lights were off. It happend after driving about 15 miles. It was intermitten. The bell was driving me nuts. When I arrived at work, I checked all lights and the owners manual. It states the cause could be a problem with either the headlamp circuit or the headlamps. I don't think there is a problem with either on my truck but a problem with the warning system itself. Has anyone else experienced this? Can this be disconnected? If so, where is it?

I had the same problem but the circuit board on the rear tail light was bad. Had it replaced and good as new.

Did it indicate a problem even with the lights off while driving down the highway??

If the socket for the stop light gets overheated it can produce those symptoms. Be sure if the socket has over heated the socket as well as the bulb gets replaced or you will be doing it again soon.

it didnt matter if my lights were on or off. It was also intermitten. it seemed as if it were possesed by christine.

if your out of warranty take both rear assembly out and look for burn spots on the circuit board. There were some other members on here that had the same problem.

Mine did this. Since going to the dealer is usually my LAST resort, my final fix ended up being:

1) Remove both tail light fixtures and remove all bulbs

2) Liberally apply electrical contact cleaner to the housing unit where the bulbs seat.

3) Install brand new bulbs, all of them. Regardless of how they test out.



Oh, and it doesn't matter if your lights are on or off. Didn't even seem to matter if the truck was in motion or not.



I tried to just replace the bulb that tested "bad", but that didn't do it. Only after replacing all the bulbs did the problem go away for good. Also, I only did one assembly (the drivers side) at first, but 1 month later the passenger side started acting up, so i recommend you do them both at once and get it over with.



I'm of the opinion that they used defective bulbs for these early 03's down in Mexico.

I have had this happen 2 times now. The first time was at about 20K miles, fixed with a new LH rear brake bulb, which I replaced only due to others who had responded to this problem not because the bulb looked burnt. At 30K miles it started up again. I took it into the dealer this time. They said that some control module tested with high resistance, and had to order the part. I couldn't take the dinging anymore, so I pulled the same bulb as before to replace it. The black plastic around the conductor wires on thebulb was melted around the wires causing the contact to be interupted. Replaced the bulb, and all good again. I asked about replacing the strip the bulbs fit into. They seem to think the controller is at fault. I guess I'll see in about 10k miles when my warranty is expired.
