Pacbrake Noise Problem Solved

Hey guys,

I got the great lamp out light the other day, it is the rear brake light. I got a new bulb and went to pop it in last night. So much for the "pop" theory.

I took the 2 screws out of the inside (where the tailgate goes) and gave it a little pull. It came out on the inside, but the outside of the housing seems to still be attached. Is there another screw holding it in?

What's the trick here?

there is a plastic pin that goes into a gromit i believe that holds it in [trying to remember back when i was modifying my tail lamps] but it does pop out. then there are 4 torx screws holding the light bar to the tail lamp... [t10 or t15 iirc]

Pins

Thanks Nick,

I will give it a little better tug. I saw the pins you are refering to on the top of the light.

Ya, it gets stuck a bit on that guide pin. You have to pull harder, just be sure to pull it straight, not at an angle.

I had the lamp out thing happen a few months ago. I had to replace all 3 bulbs to get it to finally go away.

Yesterday it started again. I'm going to replace the bulbs on the other side and hope that fixes it for good.

It's also a good idea to spray some electrical contact cleaner in there while replacing the bulbs.

I have had good luck in stopping the "Lamp Out" problem by using pocket knife blade and sliding it under each of the 2 wires on both sides of the wedge and bowing them out just a little, makes for better contact on the clips that grip the wedge. I noticed that the plastic under the wires had melted away from under the wires just a little, maybe from the arcing caused by poor contact.

Well, 11:00 last night I went out and gave her a "good" tug. Popped right off. I took the advice above and put some "goo" on the bulb and popped it back in.

Thanks guys.

Actually you do have to pull it on an angle I believe. Pull back an towards the outside, not straight back.

I got pretty good at it after installing my LED bulbs a few times, getting them rewired and working.

I like GMs design better. After getting the lense off you turn the socket to get to the bulb instead of Dodges screwed in assy.
