This is on an '03 3500 all stock, 13,000 miles, I just bought it used, it had 9800 when I got it.

Got a funny going on with my lamp out chime and light, they come on at the oddest times, sometimes one chime, sometimes two or three, and every now and then it goes totally fool for 8 to 20 dings. The fog lights don't work at all, but the bulbs and fuse all look fine. Any way to check the relay ? Anyone had this go on ?

That happened to me. Come to find out it was a burnt circuit board on my right rear tailight. Since its under warranty i would take it in. If you wanna check it yourself just pull the light assembly off and look at the board for burns.

Mine does the same thing! It has been on for the last 3 weeks and is going back in soon for that and a few other things!

mine was doing the same thing. pulled the bulb looked ok worked when it was out part way, must explain the chime once or more bouncing around in there. once the bulb was out I looked at the design and noticed it was plastic and the contact on the bulb was recessed into it ,from heat? maybe not sure. put in new aftermarket bulb glass were the factory is plastic. I guess we will see. I did not notice and thing wrong with the board will have to pull and look again.

Thanks, guys, just got back to checking this, I appreciate the info.

It hasn't done it in awhile now, but I'll take it in for a warranty check.

Hey, I have an 03 quad 4X4 Laramie and the lamp out chime went bazerk this weekend on a road trip to nor-Cal. It would chime the worst at about the 50 to 55 range for some reason but it also chimed just about everywhere else too. I checked every light and none were burnt out it chimes when the lights are on or off what the heck kinda system is this and why do I need it?

light out chime

Richard, I also have an 03 3500, had the same problem, all the lights were good, removed both rear light assemblies and checked the connections, In my case one of the brake lights was loose in the connection, vibration going down the road would set off the chime, switched the bulbs around, no more chimes. , kinda of a cheap @#$ set-up back there IMHO. ;)

Maybe this TSB might apply as it mentions false chimes.

Mine was doing the same thing and when I took it to the dealer they did the tsb that Matt400 mentioned above. So far no more chimes.

mine did it after 100 miles of interstate driving. took it in 3 times, it turns out the pass side rear had 3 different bulbs in it, for some reason. they changed them all to the same bulb, never chimed since. i bet i drove 5000 miles with the dinger dinging in my ear, it drove me so nuts i almost sold the truck.

fixed!

Thanks !

Just looked at this again, since mine went fool today, interstate driving seems to set it off. I'll change the bulbs tomorrow, thanks for the help.

Mine was doing this also, the contacts on the bulbs get recessed into the plastic, prolly from heat. I took a small pocket knife blade and slid it between the contact wire and plastic and twisted the blade just a little, this bowed the contact wire out so it could make better contact. Did this about 44K ago, and had no problems since.
