It sounds like you have a problem somewhere. Iwould take it to the dealer for repair. Funny that it would go out when you turn on the lights. Normally the light will come on as you start it as a display check but should go out by itself once the truck has started and the self check is completed. I presume you checked all the lights for operation.

LAMP OUT WARNING

I was just checking to see if there is an easy fix. I know whats causing it. I installed a Brite Box. I can deal with the warning light but I can't deal with stock head lights. These are the worst, I'm surprised they are even legal, you can't see S%#$^.

I have the Lamp Out light everytime I turn on my lights after upgrading the bulbs. I just turn it to high beam, and back to low and it goes out. Must be too much load or something.

A friend of mine had the lamp out indicator come on for several hours while driving during the day. It also turned on the warning chime the whole way. Start/Stop cycles of truck did not change anything this one day. Following days all was good. I found a TSB for this but was for situations where a utility type box replaced the bed and the use of dual filament bulbs.

Anyway, dealer states that his relocating the trailer plug to the bed of the truck for the 5th wheel is the issue. Harness was neither shortened or lengthened, just plug relocated. That didn't fly too well and dealer is looking into further.

Funny thing about the trailer plug. I installed a Line Of Fire led strip under the tail gate, connected to the plug and started having a intermittent "lamp out" signal. I thought it was coincidental with the high beam circuit problems I was having.

My lamp out light would would flash, and the chime would go off at times especially when on a rough road. I figured it was a bad filament or bad ground, but didn't bother to check it further. Finally the light stayed on. and sure enough the left stop lamp was out. It also set a code for left stop lamp relay (imagine that!)

The contact on the bulb was melted slightly like it had been making poor contact (duh) for a while. $1. 50 at Napa and all is well.

Update:

On my friends rig, the dealer did not find anything and could not duplicate. On the way home, the lamp out started dinging again. Tech said they would have to wait for a failure to find out what is going on. I'm going to hook up my laptop and obd2 and take it for a spin this week and see if there happens to be any kind of warning code while the condition exists.

No other problems noted other than the annoying chime. Fault codes should be stored in the FCM, even if the light does not stay on.
