Looking for a Country Band!

And ANOTHER one bites the dust!

So I have this Compaq laptop that is about 20 months old, so far havent had a problem with it. However it seems that the "male" connector inside the back for the AC power adapter is loose so unless the computer is sitting stationary on a desk its constantly flashing back and forth between batter and AC power and now even when its on a desk I have to put a lot of effort into adjusting the female connector so that it will actually run on AC power and charge the battery.

Anybody have an idea how to fix this? I know you can power some peripherals through the USB port, can you run power to the computer through the USB?

No. You can't backfeed the motherboard/power supply like that...

I have the same problem with my old Fujitsu tablet-PC. If I get really upset with it... I'm just going to install a different style connector on the PC and the power cord. Have you tried tweaking the connector on the PC side? I haven't tried that yet... but it might be worth a shot...

Thanks for the reply.

The PC side connector is recessed into the case. So I'd have to take the case apart to get to it. If I use the tip of a pen I can wiggle the stud around, not sure what it connects to inside?

The stud might not be the issue... it could be the outside conductor. You might be able to get at it with a pick or small screwdriver... without taking it all apart.

Laptops can be a real bear to take apart... been there, done that.

Outside conductor as in the connector that slides over the stud and then to the AC adapter?

I bought a new one today and it still needs to be "tuned" to work so to speak. I guess the stud could be wore down but they both seem to fit tight.

The bottom looks pretty easy to get off but I really dont want to screw with it.

You could try doing what is the common fix for the rotating gear pattern (service indicator) on the 3rd gens. Put a little crimp on the plastic to help hold it in place.
