She gets it right!

what kind of CB's do y'all have

Hey computer Guru's, I just bought a Toshiba laptop at a junk store, after charging for a few hours it seems to try and boot, but it then asks for a password, since I don't have a clue of what to put in there, is there any way of getting around that? And if so what do I do to get rid of it needing one? It's running Windows XP that much I know! Maybe I waisted 20 bucks, but I thought it was worth a try :(

You can try using Adminstrator for the user name with a blank password, but most likely it won't work. At a minimum you will have to reinstall Windows XP to get around this issue. Worst case would be to reformat the hard drive and install whatever OS you want.

Is the Windows splash screen coming up and then it asks for a password? Or does it ask for a password before that? It could be a BIOS boot password. I'm not familiar with Toshiba's but there's usually a way to reset the BIOS memory which will get rid of that.

Yes Steve, The windows screen comes up and then it says the guy's name and asks then for the password, I think it's just a user password that I need.

Ok then when you first turn it on keep pressing the F8 function key until it comes up with the boot menu. Select safe mode. It may let you in there without a password and then you can delete his user and add a new one for yourself without a password. It may or may not work but it's worth a try.

It seems I have got it to work! now if I can clear all the junk that's in there I'll be on my way, going to get AVG, Adaware, and Spybot put in soon as I get the ISP connection done, I'll get all the cooties cleaned out, and I'll be good to go.

Thanks to all who replied!! Oo.
