anyone have a DIESEL generator in their trailer?

12 volt a/c

I am looking to use DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2003. Has anyone used this one yet? Does it show stations that have diesel fuel? Also I will be driving both Interstate Highways and some rural areas as well so does it work well for both? Seems sometime ago someone said they needed two sets of software so they got good detail for both highway and rurual roads. If that is true which 2?

By the way I see they have a new GPS receiver using USB on the lapstop. No battries for the GPS or external power requirments, etc. Can order in middle of Feb and maybe get delivery in March. Will wait to order the new GPS receiver.

I have Street Atlas 2003 Deluxe and it does not have fueling stations listed. You can find out where "Betty's Day Care Center" is though.

Delorme's AAA Map 'n Go does have the fueling locations listed. This map software is a collaboration effort with AAA. It works with the GPS also.

Seems like they could make one nice utility that has all the streets and services available together in one package.

I've had about every version Delorme has made, starting with their expensive 'Map Expert' product. Some of their versions were absolute junk.

Street Atlas 6 was junk. Street Atlas 7 is OK. They still don't have US412 correct between Arkansas and Oklahoma. That road has been complete for over 8 years.

Microsoft "Map Point" or "Streets and Trips" both show gas stations, but do not show diesel. Does the AAA product specifically show diesel fueling stations ?

Here is a list of the major truck stop web sites:

http://www.flyingj.com/

http://www.loves.com/

http://www.petrotruckstops.com/petro_fuel_price.asp

http://www.tatravelcenters.com/ta/display_page.phtml?page_id=102

http://www.pilotcorp.com/index_fuelpricing.htm

and finally

http://www.gocomchek.com/

Gocomcheck lists truck stops (not “J”) along the I’states and major US highways. Enter the highway # and direction of travel then look at what happens. They don't list the "Mom & Pop" type of convenience stores that handle diesel.

I anybody knows of another major Diesel supplier why don't you post it for the rest of us?

Jumbo Jet ~ I understand the Map & Go is not longer available or supported by DeLorme. I like damon would like to find one that showed exit services and if they have diesel available.

Since boht my boys are in there 30's I don't need "Betty's Day Care Center". But then again I sometimes think I do. :D

I might add to my post above that in Oregon, the Diesel price shown is for UPC permit holders, Car & RV (non UPC permit holders) have to add $0. 24/gal to the posted price.

In Arizona the Car/RV Diesel price is -$0. 09/gal LESS than posted (UPC) price. If you pull into the Car/RV island the price differential is shown on the pump. If you use the BIG truck side, call the fueling desk (before fueling, they will verify with the camera that you are a car/RV) then adjust the price. Remember to call before fueling for the discount!

If you search thru the diesel truck stop sites they will list fuel price, location of stations services availabel etc.

I too have used Delorme. Had Street Atlas 6,7 now 2003. Also had Map & Go. I agree with previous posts, it’s not perfect however I’ve looked at others and have stuck with Delorme. Wasn’t aware they dropped Map & Go, I found Street Atlas to be more detailed anyhow. Data base is not always perfect / up to date but then I don’t think anything will be. Maybe we can do it real-time wireless someday. All in all it’s still the best I’ve used to date.

SA 2003 changed the menu bars, controls, screen layout etc. completely, over earlier versions. I found it to be less intuitive but have gotten used to it. Maybe that’s just me.

Also use the gps, have the serial port model with laptop keyboard adapter that supplies power to the unit. Traded to a new Dell:D and now have no serial:( . I’ll have to change something but haven’t got it done yet. The usb would be better.

I’ll be interested in watching this thread myself to see other comments.

TravRoute - CoPilot

I use CoPilot by TravRoute w/GPS. I also upgraded my notebook to a model w/o a serial port. I found an older notebook with the serial port, that I run the CoPilot and MS Streets&Trips (w/o GPS) applications on. TravRoute does offer both serial and USB GPS receivers. In addition to Ms STreets & Trips, I also use an Exit Authority book to assist with trip planning into the CoPilot. CoPilot works well enough standalone, but I found the combination to be the easiest.

Delorme is still selling AAA Map 'n Go v 7. 0.

Street Atlas 2003 DOES have diesel locations in their POI database. Just make sure you load it during the install process. They are not necessarily real easy to find. But it would give the co-pilot something to do.

During your trip plannig, you can add the POI as a stop.

Really cool link for some gps files

I too have been considering the Delorme software for use with a Meridian GPS that I just got. I bought the MapSend software with the Meridian but am generally dissatisfied with its functionality when it comes to generating routes. You have to first create waypoints THEN connect the waypoints to create a route that then can be sent to the GPS. It's kind of a cumbersom and tedious process.

However, I need the MapSend program in order to upload detailed maps to the GPS, but I want something else to use for generating routes that can be uploaded. Preferably something that will auto-route and allow me to edit/move waypoints on the route and calculate distance and drive times etc.

While researching different map software programs I came across this site that has a bunch of waypoint files that you can download and import into Delorme or Microsoft. There are files with waypoints for Wal-Marts, Loves, Flying J, Camping World, campgrounds and even one for Cummins Service Centers.

Go to this link and scroll way down.

Hi All,

I use Delorme Street Atlas USA Delux. Under POI (Points of Interest) I can select Diesel Fuel and many other things, too.

Here is how I get to it:

Map Display tab, to "Features". then select "use custom points of interest". select "customize POIs" then find "EXIT Services".

Under exit services you can clear all the boxes and select just the Diesel Fuel.

I used it on a trip at Christmas and it worked fine. The other Delome map programs may be similar.

Good luck,

JD

Thanks jdiebold, your post made me do some more looking. I have Street Atlas 2003. I followed your "clicks" and thought it was a dead end for SA 2003, no Diesel Fuel listed under exit services but ... there is a search box to the right of the exit services list. I typed in diesel and Waa ... La . . there it is!:D

Is there a map program that interfaces with a GPS?

I would like a program that you could plan a trip with, but that could also give you directions from where you are to where you want to go.

Thanks

fuel stops

The best program to show fuel stops is PC-Miler, it is not cheap!! You may be able to find it on internet reasonable. It is a commercial trucking program, I haul campers and cars anywhere from Anchorage to Miami and I use Delorme and PC-Miler. Have to use Map N Go for Canada, PC-Miler shows Canada niether one has a lot of detain North of Canada USA border. GPS does not work with PC-Miler.

CSCOTT,

Street Atlas will plot a route from a "Start" point to a "Finish" point and can plot a route from your current location(GPS) (back-on-track or some such )to get you back to your original route should you take an extended unplaned side trip or detour.
