I'm starting to look for a 94-98 dodge diesel. Can someone explain to me the different models from plain to fully loaded. Some I have looked at have been SLT's, Laramies, SLT Lamaries, Sport, Sport Laramies, leather, cloth, etc. I'm getting confused. Thanks in advance, Bob

For the 1994-1998 trucks:

ST - basic truck

Laramie SLT - high-line option package until leather came out.

Laramie SLT+ - never an "official" badge designation, but this package got the leather and all the goodies.

Sport - a trim package that can be included on any of the above. It comes with different headlights, body colored bumpers and grille surround as the major features.

For example, our 2002 truck is an SLT+ Sport. Our 1996 3500 was a Laramie SLT - top of the line for its day, but leather wasn't an option back then.

Rusty, if I'm not mistaken, the Sport package cannot be added to an ST (i. e. , work truck).

Also...

on the new '03 HD Rams:

ST

SLT

Sport (upscale from the SLT... available with cloth or basic leather seats)

Laramie (like the SG SLT+/Laramie... except it is its own model now... includes high quality leather/suede seats with the Rams head embroidered on the seat backs, seat heaters, and EVERY available option... top of the line!)

John,

Now that I think about it, you're most likely correct.

Rusty

In 96 the cummins came in three trim levels:

Either ST, LT, SLT or it was LT, ST, SLT. Both standard cab & extended cab. Bottom trim level is vinyl seats w/ rubber mats, mid-level trim is cloth w/ carpet, SLT is all of the bells & whistles.

'94 through '02:

SLT/Laramie (i. e. , an SLT was/is a Laramie)

'03+:

SLT is below a Sport which is below a Laramie... Laramie is the top dog now (i. e. , above an SLT)

One thing about the pre '03 STs:

they do not have the sound deadening materials installed that the SLTs have.
