Large Stationary Diesel Engine

I did some work at a Pipeline Co. today, they had a 10' tall diesel engine running in the pump house, very cool. Hearing protection required... WHAAT?

I wish I had pics, Turbo was huge. 4" exhaust, how about 20" exhaust... :-laf

catch the name on the engine? the emd and ge engines i work on if on the floor will stand about 10' to the top of the turbo. .

I have a 1. 2 MegaWatt generator at work with a Cummins V-12. It sits on a 1500 gallon tank and is 15' tall.

I did not, there was no name brand visible or tag etc. Old as the hills though. Might not have been as old as the pipeline station, which is over 50yrs in that location, could have been that old I guess.

American Locomotive Corporation, McIntosh & Seymore, (6-12 1/2 x 13 over 38 on the label), 810 horsepower at 600 rpm.



I wish my 1st Gen had that kind of power at 600 rpm...

6 cylinders, 13" bore, 12. 5" stroke.

That's it. Had a very large square intercooler in the intake pipe too... Gauge panel was 6 ft. tall...

i snagged a nearly complete alco 539 maintenence manual from a guy who retired. . that manual is probably now 40+ years old [the first 5 pages are missing so the printed date is unknown to me]

Under the displacement tag was the #38, I think that is the year manufactured...
