Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) larger fittings in stock fuel filter

Has anyone drilled & tapped the stock fuel filter housing for larger fittings? I was thinking of something like 1/4 or 3/8 (max) pipe threads. I'm upgrading the fuel sys and would like something with more flow than the 12 x 1. 5 banjo bolt offers. Thanks.

Yes it is possible on the 2nd gens with the plastic lid. You have to remove the center stud to tap the bottom, and remove the fuel heater (that is a pita). I did a test on one out to 1/4NPT and it works great. It is currently on ramonram's truck.
