Larger Tires

I have an 07, 6. 7 3500. I have heard that a larger diameter tire will increase overall speed and decrease engine RPM. It will also decrease your hole-shot speed, but will increase top-end speed. I have also heard that installing too large of a tire however, can stress a number of the components (e. g. engine, transmission, axles, etc. ) because of the additional rolling mass, and the decreased RPM of the tire, and can overheat the engine because it has to work that much harder to turn a larger, heavier tire. Any thoughts on this? I want to go to 30" Rockstars.

well i am putting 35's on mine next week, and ran my duramax with 37's for 3 1/2 years with stock gears, axles, transmission, and edge hot juice and never had a bit of trouble, and liked the way it drove.

All my 3500's run a 225/70/19. 5" tire and rim... we chose this tire because of the lower cost per mile and the tire is just 1/2" taller so no re-calibration of the speedo is required... we have no problem running the trucks at 75 mph... with the loads we haul, anything about this speed we feel would be unsafe... ...

I definately would not worry about overstressing anything on a 20" rim unless you are putting on a large lift and massive tires. I would worry most about overloading the rim/tire if you are doing much heavy work. Do you know how to till out your signature so we can see the details on your truck?

What gears do you have now? What transmission and how big of tire are you talking? What will you be towing?



I am running 37's with my G56 and 3:73 and have no issues towing my 8K trailer or boat. I actually can gruise at 70mph @2000rpm now stock I was running 2300rpm @ 70mph.

I run the 285/75R17 Toyos which are about an inch larger than stock (2" overall) and they are prefect for my truck with the 3. 73's and G56. Puts me at 2050RPM's at 70MPH. I wouldn't go any bigger since I pull a large heavy toyhauler. Scotty
