As I look at the truck, the tires look small as I compare them to the wheel wells. I'm looking for new tires for the OEM steel rims. My OEM's are 230/80-17. What tire choices do I have for my dullie? Thanks!
 
a lot of guys around here run 265/70r17s on late model dodge duallies. there are also quite a few running 285/70r17s. the 285s touch on the duals and while i'm sure it will get some on here really up in arms, i've personally witnessed a guy who pulls trailers constantly run the 285s on his 07 dodge dually for around 200k.
 
A 235/85 would give you another inch and still work on the rims. A 255\85 will give you over 2" but under a full load probably touch on the duals if that is a concern.

The biggest problem with the taller tires is vibration. It can take some work at around 33" to get rid of vibes but the 34" tires on a 16 or 17 rim can be impossible to get rid of it all. Frequently ends up being the lesser of 2 evils when it comes to tire height.

Just looked and can't find the right calculator. How big of a tire wold yo need to go to to get to a 3. 5 effective ratio or a 3. 25 ratio?
 
Finally found a calculator I needed. Looks like a 35/36" tire will get me to a 3. 30 effective ratio which is what I am looking for.

Will this size tire fit without a lift?
 
I only know this because I just got tires today. I got Lt235/80r17 Michelin LTX M/S2, 70,000 mile warr, 6 of them mounted with high sales tax, total about $1500. As far as Bf Goodrich, Michelin, Goodyear are concerned they don't make any bigger than 80% in a 235 width on 17" rims. So if you want taller tires you have to go wider. But maybe there is a special order tire out there somewhere. I didn't shop in the Chinese section or mud/Rock flinging section. So if you want a quality long lasting Highway tire you will be limited. I just looked on bf Goodrich site and the next size up tire I could fit was a 255/75r17 Mud terrain. But I'm no tire expert, its just all fresh in my mind from this morning.

Also if anyone else reading is confused on how to read the tire size Lt235/80 r17
lt= light truck
235= millimeters tire width
80= the sidewall is 80% of the width of the tire
R17= the rims size of 17 "

I guess you are saying my tires are some sort of flukes. I have 315's 325's,35's and 37's none have any vibration issues and all have excedded the 100mph mark even in the dirt
