Larry B contacts

I've got my starter out and am going to install Larry B's contacts. I've always wanted them. Now is a good time. Mine look OK but I still want them. Some say it will start easier. And perhaps prevent the starter from sticking on run in the future.



Is the whole deal about causing the fuel solonoid (strong pull one) to stick only a 2nd gen issue on P-pumps? OR does the VE also have one that will stick on too and overheat?



I ask because Geno's lists the fuel solonoids for 1994-98 models.

From what I understand, if you already have the contacts, you shouldn't need the fuel solenoid diode (on a 2nd gen) don't know about the first gen. I had the diode and then the damn thing broke after a year and left me stranded, I had to tow it home and then remove the stupid thing. I didn't have tools at the time it broke or I would have removed it right there. I sent an email to Larry B's and never heard a response. By the way, the contacts work great, can't say that about the diode.

Yes, the issue with the solenoid burning up is just on the 2ns gen's. The VE solenoid is not powered through the starter circuit like the p-pump solenoid is.

I broke my diode installing it... . Oh well. The contacts don't prevent a run away they just provide 60% more contact surface when starting. The diode prevents a starter failure where the starter is stuck and won't stop cranking. The diode prevents the starter from back-feeding 12v into the fuel solenoid and causing it to stay on too long. The fuel solenoid will burn up if it's on too long at a cost of about $200.



The fuel solenoid relay Term 85 is connected to the starter. The starter could back feed 12V thru this connection and turn on the fuel solenoid relay which energizes the fuel solenoid "Pull" circuit. If the Pull circuit is on too long it will burn up its coil. The diode is placed in this Brn wire circuit at the starter to block 12v from the starter from going up this wire (Brn) to the fuel solenoid relay.

I called Larry B on this one. 1st gens do not need this device since the signal works differant on our trucks.
