I bought a set of LarryB's ND Alternator Replacement Brushes, I have never replaced Alternator brushes before and was wondering in any of you have done it? By the directions on the website it doesn't look to difficult, as my truck is getting close to 100K miles I thought it was a good time to change them. ALL of the products I have brought from Larry B have been top quality and easy to put on. Are there any suggestion on how to do this job?

Thanks so Much,

Breed.....

SSage, he is talking about the ALTERNATOR, not starter.

Breed, yes I have changed them, not hard just remember where, and in what order the parts were in. In my case I changed the bearings too, I figured after 175K it was about time. Whale its apart take a good look at the slip rings, the part the brushes ride on. Mine were worn had an alt. -starter shop change them. If thats the case w/yours you are going to be down for more than a day. Good luck.

Thanks, I have done the starter several times, with the Help of Larry B's I finally got that fixed, so with 92,000 miles if figured it was time to do the brushes on the ALTERNATOR, it's working fine but figured I'd go ahead ahead and change them. Is this possible while the ALTERNATOR is still on the truck? it appears the brushes go in from the back of the ALTERNATOR after removing five nuts and three screws. Having never done it I was interested how to do it.
Thanks for your help.

According to the website, you pull off five nuts off the rear and three screws and the brushes slip out, I haven't received them yet from Larry B's to get the directions. Looks pretty simple, I just have never done it.

I have never tried w/it in the truck. I would think it would be eay to loose parts. Not hard to remove the alt. from the truck.

Well, I pulled the Alternator off the truck and replaced the brushes. I had to remove five nuts and three screws and it was very easy fix and just took a few minutes. The brushes go in as a kit and they worked fine and saved me lots of cash. I would recommend doing this if your truck has over 100k on the alternator and it will get alot or more service life for about 20 bucks.
