Dyno mishap - ricer eats it

Some background. Traveling east on I-10 this past wknd I, along with maaaany others (the whole force was out for the 'excitement'), got zapped by the local LEO. The circumstances make me suspect "speed trap" (AKA "revenue enhancement") so I'd like to know at what point the speed limit changed from 75mph to 65mph near mile marker 132.

FWIW, here are more of the particulars. Citation was issued at 0106 (1:06am) this past Sunday morning for doing 77mph in 65mph zone. I was 'lasered' at 1476' by an officer in a patrol car located on an overpass at MM132 or in the vicinity of MM132. The speed limit changed from 75mph to 65mph at/near MM132 & the ticketing officer claimed that I, & others, had, IIRC, ~1900' & sufficient time to slow down to the lower posted speed. I was just driving with traffic flow & didn't even notice the change in speed limit (my fault) but if the 1900' distance mentioned above is the distance since the speed limit change then I, & others, would've have had ~17 seconds in which to slow down, which is, AFAIC, insufficient (& that's putting it mildly!!!).

I'm considering fighting the ticket so would appreciate knowing at which MM the speed limit actually changed. There's construction in that area but I'm hoping the speed limit change location has remained unchanged since I passed thru.

TIA.

I assume you were near Gallup. This website would have helped and may help in the future. Has info on where speed traps are and fighting speed trap tickets. http://www.speedtrap.org/speedtraps/ste.asp?state=NM

What someone else had to say:

"Other's Comments - 6/2003 - I was traveling east on I40 and speed changed from 75 to 65. I was using cruise control and immediately took car out of cruise control and began to slow to 65. A sgt with gallup police stopped me saying I was going 83 in a 65 zone. I was given the option of signing a ticket saying I was guilty or going to court and talk with their judge and probably going to jail while waiting for the judge. I was not guiltly of speeding but given no choice. This can only happen if the police and court are working together to fleece out of state drivers. What a shame that safe drivers trying to stay within speed laws are abused by this type of morality. "

Pretty good website

I added it to my list. I looked up Sulphur, LA, and it said "Entire City, Any time of day". :D They used to throw people in jail and confiscate their cars (then sell them) for speeding. Some news station exposed the scam a while back, so they stopped.

What could they do if you never paid the ticket, and never went back to the state that it was issued in? Could they extradite you for a speeding ticket? I'd have a hard time avoiding New Mexico, besides loving the food my in-laws live there, but I could certainly stay away from Louisiana.

On second thought I know what would happen to me. The Coast Guard checks the national drivers license registry before issuing Merchant Mariner documents or licenses. I probably couldn't renew or upgrade my engineers license.

I still owe a ticket fine from Canada . . from a year and a half ago. . a stupid parking ticket they wanted $30. 00 Canadian for in Bamf... parked my Dually in RV parking because the damnn streets were to narrow and I would have come back to missing fenders, also most of the spaces were for compact cars, so I wrote them a letter and said stuff your summons/ fine where the sun don't shine... . see me when ya see me :p

illflem, thnx for the link. I've added it to my list of bookmarks & I'll surf the site for ideas on how to get the ticket dismissed.
