Cummins Puller
After thinking about it I am wondering why you want to take I-40 to Louisiana? The Colorado River is about 600-ft elevation and Flagstaff is something on the order of 7,000- ft. , Not a steep pull but gradual. Albuquerque also has some pretty good pulls in both directions. Then if going over the Dam it is steep, twisty and slow going down the NV side, congested @ the dam and then a steep, twisty and slow going up the AZ side. Plus the time spent being “inspected” before crossing.
This is the way we travel to AZ every winter, why don’t you think about this? Remember don’t get confused there is a US 95 on the NV & CA side, there is an AZ 95 on the AZ side.
From Boulder City/Las Vegas take US 95 to US 95/I 40, continue South from Needles on US 95 to Vidal Junction turn East on CA 62 to Parker AZ. Continue straight through Parker. Highway becomes AZ 72/AZ 95 in Parker. Take AZ 72 to Vicksburg, AZ, turn South at Vicksburg to join I 10 at exit 45. Go East on I 10 to Buckeye (exit 112) turn south on AZ 85 to join I 8 at Gila Bend. (This eliminates driving through Phoenix) Go east on I 8 to rejoin I 10 at Casa Grande. Good quality 2 lane road, little traffic but a lot of 18-wheelers use it and no long pulls. Then I 10 on into LA or branch off onto I 20 in TX.
There is a Flying J at Eloy, then in Tucson I 10 exit 268? The Triple T (TTT) truck stop is normally as cheap as anyplace in the Tucson area.
Remember in AZ there are two Diesel fuel prices, big truck (commercial) is 8 or 9 cents/gal more than for car/PU diesel. If you use the “big truck” side, call the fuel desk before fueling and they will adjust the price. That being said, your flat bed with the valves on it, they may want to charge you the commercial price.
Good luck, let us know which way you go and what you think of it.
