As a situation I've seen before, don't count on the red dot to be a deterrent to a home invader or general street thug. If they've already crossed over the line to intend harm to you, they don't care. They have to be physically stopped. The laser aiming aid is for YOU, not them. It is to aid you in a very stressful and short scenario to help keep you from panic and help you defer the threat. The rear sights seem to be fairly well made, I've not gotten much experience with them, but it's certainly a good idea. The closer to the line of sight, the more accurate they should be. I don't like the bulky looks on top of the pistol, but for a self defense handgun, they should work well as long as they will stay close to being sighted in. My limited experience was with an associate's pistol at the range, and it seems to work fairly well, although his wasn't sighted in very well. It was pointed low and to the right of impact, making the pistol shoot high and to the left at 50ft. when centered by the laser. This makes for a good center mass shot still, so it would stop an attacker cold. Either way, I hope you never have to use it.
God bless,
