I had a 1985 1 ton non-dually, and sold it to my friend. I don't see many 1 ton non-duallys. Can anyone tell me what year was the last year Chrysler stopped making the 1 ton non-dually?

Thanks,

I believe it was around '92 or '93. When I had my '91 3/4 ton, a friend of mine had the same or maybe a year newer 1 ton Cummins.

:p I was under the impression that if you have the Dana-80 in the rear which by itself is rated at 11,500 that you pretty much have a 1 ton truck. Inquiring minds are curious:D

I have a 98. 5 short bed 2500 with the Dana 80 and the camper and tow packages. I have looked closely at my truck next ot my friends 3500 and except for the dual wheels I cant see a dif. I do beilve that the only dif is the duellys? I could be wrong it has happened a time or two! Dave:)

Yep :D I have had mine next to a dually also. Same springs.

As I understand it, to make my truck into a dually there is a kit that I can get for around $1200 that replaces the hubs with the needed hard ware for dually tires and rims. The only difference in pay load is about 1300 lbs and that is because of the extra two tires that they haveOo.

I know it will pack a lot more than a ton though. I have had the back filled up from the bed to even right with the rails with 87 x 46 x 13/32 sheets of window glass. Was not even on the over loads.

Oo. Oo. Man I like these trucks. :D :D

The big 3 have variously marketed their over 8500 gvw trucks as 3/4 and 1 ton, when equipped with single rear wheels. For example, I had a D250 @ 8550 in 1980, and a D350 @ 8510 lb. in 1985. Chevy had the C6P option on the 3/4, and the 1 ton ratings with the same basic suspension, frame, etc. stuff on the truck. Ford did similarly. Our present 8800 gvw single rear wheel BR2500 could be considered a one ton by the above criteria. Marketing.
