Running Two EU3000s?

Some may remember my rants and dissatisfaction with the tendancy of my USGear 2sp to overheat. Well, 10K later and Castrol Syntorq and it is working great. I'm guessing that the breaking in and best oil are the ticket. I just returned from a 5000mile trip to southern Baja, Mex. and had plenty of time to work it good. Highest oil temp I saw was 220 after 1 hr of strong headwind and 65mph at 18,000lbs+ GCVW. I pulled the Grapevine hill both north and south at 55 in 4th over, 215F max temp.

I'm happy now!:D

Larry,

Glad to hear that things worked out on your US Gear OD. What other gear lubes did you try and how did they compare? Always curious, Larry C.

I ran a US Gear setup for well over 100,000 miles on my '91 - about a third of that mileage towing a 7000 lb 5er setup - lotsa heavy Sierra towing at and above the speed limit - always worked great...

Following Reb. b advice I am running ATF

Haven't run loaded yet with temp sensor currently runs about 25 - 50* over mainbox. 4 hours of running with last hours crossing sierras I80 going about 70 - 80 up the mountains in 5th over. 175*

Standard gear oil I didn't have a sensor so checked it Okie style.

Mainbox warm to touch USgear felt same temp about 4-6" away from it. Contact on the metal would burn if more then a sec. Had to have been 200* That was 30 mins flat land empty. Same run with the sensor and ATF only 125 - 150. depending on speed. Slightly warmer to touch then main but not as hot as before.

Hope that was informative :) Seat o the pants science!
