Been a while since I've watched the fuel pump threads. What is the best system now, is Fass still the most popular, how about Airdog? Also, how do you guys with the Fass mounted on the frame rail stop the fuel tank from syphoning out when you change the filter or motor. Is there a fuel shut off valve. How reliable are these and is it easy to swap out the motor alongside the road?

Thanks,
Bill

I would like to know some answers to these questions too. I have already had a problem with the factory lift pump. I think its original and the truck has over 200,000 on it so I'm on borrowed time. Would like to buy a Fass or Airdog. Which is the best for the buck and ease of installation?

The pump I'd like to have is made by Fuel Lab, an inline model with brushless DC motor. They're pretty spendy but have claims of good durability. I read up on them some about a year ago but haven't searched the forums to see how well they've been holding up in real world use. http://fuelab.com/products/diesel/velocity-100-gph-system/velocity-100-gph-system-dodge/item/30301/

I am thinking about my options since the motor of the fuel pump I had burned out suddenly without warning about 600 miles from home and left me stranded.

I had a FASS DDRP on my old ride, got it from Genos. Had a 3 year warranty, ran out of that without any problems. Ran it without a pre filter until shortly before I ended up selling it without issues. Have a airdog raptor now which was on truck when I bought it, no issues for the few years been running it. Both are located on the frame rail. I don't have a pre filter for the air dog and been totally fine. My two experiences with aftermarket pumps, both easy installs. Any thing is better than the carter.

Can anybody with a Fass tell me if the fuel keeps syphoning out of the tank when changing a filter or motor. Also, I did some research and found that Fass replacement motors cost about $280, about half the cost of the original kit. Anybody know what aftermarket filters cost for the Fass.

I have a 2002 Ram 2500 with 175,000 miles. I have had a few lift pumps and recently the second VP-44. After the first VP I had a low pressure light installed. It never came on except under heavy acceleration. A few weeks ago she just died going up the bridge and I had it towed to am mechanic. He said lift and VP were dead. Since I have a new VP and Airtex frame mounted lift pump, I have installed a fuel gage. I have about 12 pounds at idle and 9-10 at cruising speed. Questions are do I need to bleed fuel from the line to the gage. Should I look into a different more powerful lift pump while VP is new.

airdog had a bad reputation a few years ago because their pumps werent lasting. im sure theyve taken care of that by now and my brother has had good luck with his but i personally think FASS is worth every penny.

I run oem pumps for 12 years (about 80k miles each) and 220k miles, the truck had 34k when I bought it, so 254k total, still on the oem vp. I now run the Fass DDRP-02 with my Edge Juice, so far so good, 1 year and 15k miles. On level 5 where I am at the most, the fuel pressure will drop to 2psi on a tough pull. The best thing you can do for your lift pumps and VP is to run on the top half of your fuel tank. I monitor my fuel temp at the vp and can watch the temp go up as the fuel level drops. When I fuel up you can watch the fuel temp go back down.

I run a pusher pump mounted on the frame, when I change filters I drain and pull the OEM first then open the fuel cap. That I don't get very much drain back at the lower filter.
