Hey y'all, I am new to this site. As you can see in my sig I am about to become the proud owner of a 2008 CTD. That said, I would like to make sure that the truck has all of the TSB's applied prior to taking delivery of the vehicle. Other than taking the dealership's word, is there a way for me to insure that they have all been applied? Can they run diagnostics on the truck and then provide me a printout of the revisions/levels all pertinent systems?

Am I making any sense here?

Tsb's are for info only, they are not authorization for work. Rapid responses and recalls on the other hand must be done. For getting a tsb done you need to tell them you have an issue,if the tsb applys and you are under warranty it will get done.

It is my understanding that when the Cummins engine is assembled, which is only a week or two before it is installed in a new truck on the assembly line, the engine has all the latest and greatest software updates installed.

My '08 has been perfectly troublefree for just under 8,000 miles. I have not seen an alarm or warning code set.

Judging only from posts here on the TDR website it appears that only a VERY few new '07. 5s had actual problems and they were probably the earliest production units sold. A few more '07. 5s have set codes but haven't actually had any serious problems.

I have not seen a report of a single '08 with a problem or code set.

From all reports it is absolutely critical to make sure you burn only ULSD fuel and use only CJ engine oil. Anything else will reportedly cause problems with the tight emission equipment on the new trucks.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I am really looking forward to finally owning a Cummins diesel. I have been wanting one for years. I am glad to hear that Cummins and Dodge have seemingly worked through any production start up issues.

As for the ULSD, the stations I go to only carry the ULSD, so that should not be an issue. And, I have been buying the CJ oil for my current truck, so I will continue to do so in the future.

Thanks again for the insight.

yes the trucks leave the factory with the latest tsb's already done on them. RRT's are pretty much recalls before they become a major problem. RRT's have to be done before the truck leaves the dealership or the dealership can get fined by chrysler.

I just had my 2008 2500 Bluetec in for the 5th time because of a "check engine indicator". They cleaned the O2 sensors, reflashed everything and told me that Dodge is still trying to fix the problem. It all started after I took the truck in for a "recall" reflash that was required. This time the light did not come on for about 2000 miles. Last time was after 50 miles of driving after they reflashed everything.

You evidently aren't reading many posts if you don't see any 08s with problems. I've been two weeks without full use of mine with only 6, 000 miles on it.
