I am going to be going to the track this weekend, for the ATS fest in Denver. This will be my first time on the track, so I'm looking for some ideas/help in getting off the line as quickly as possible. TIA... ScottOo.

Going to be in four wheel drive and leave 1 light early (at least, maybe even a little sooner). Definately going to be tough on you rowing the gears. You will not keep up with the autos with the same setup. Get to 6th when you can and let it buck. EGTs are going to be high. . Like I saw 1500 degrees. Found I am going to need some traction bars... Wicked wheel hop even in four wheel drive. Was running 15. 3s. . But I have a 4. 5 inch lift and am swinging 35 inch toyos on 18s. . Smarty on level 9, 5 inch exhaust, with a SBC DD, mega cab with the G-56. Maybe someone who has run the NV5600 will chime in here...

Also stating the obvious, need to have a DOT SNELL approved helmet and make sure you take a quick look at the engine compartment/etc for any fluid leaks. If you can pull any weight off the truck it will help, normal ops are for every 100 lbs lighter you get it equals about a . 1 sec in the quarter. Of course, I was moving over 8K down the track so doesn't really matter.

If you run faster than 13. 99 you will need a Snell 05 DOT Helmet. As for how to launch I usually run in 4wd and obviously start in 2nd gear. Keep your rpms up to about 2,800-3,000 and leave on the last yellow. As for building boost like the autos, I don't think there is a way but I could be wrong. Don't worry about beating them beacause time is relative as you only race against your own E. T. The last time I raced at the Truck Fest I managed to click off a 17. 776 @ 80. 27 with a . 277 Reaction Time. I thought this was pretty good on a basically stock six speed at 6,000 ft. I think for the best advice you should meet up with Kurt (Glhs), He always manages to scoot his wicked fast 1st-gen down the track while suprising the auto transmission guys.

Thanks for the help guys. i only got 1 pass in the morning, but smoked the Stock Clutch all the way down the track. Had to drive it home, so I parked it for the day. TIME TO GO SHOPPING AGAIN... . Scott:-laf
