Read just about all posts on launch shuddering, driveline angles,

TC shudder and all other posibilities.

I installed the air bags last week and finally got around to pulling the 5th wheel.

With 40psi in the bags the shudder was still there.

With 60psi in the bags the shudder was reduced by over half

With 80psi, the shudder was GONE.

No shudder when the truck is empty, only with pulling the 5th wheel, SO IS IT Driveline problems, or nothing to worry about.

Bill - I do the same, I adjust my air bags until shudder goes away. I have adjusted my center support for no shudder empty, but it comes back with the gooseneck on. I just increase air pressure until it goes away.

Part of the drive train shudder at launch is caused by the two piece drive shaft also. I have seen conversions to a one piece drive shaft that eliminated this. Had to get measurements and go to a shop for fabrication and balance using a one piece from a salvage yard. It is worth investigating.

Do you remember how much you had to shim? The idea of a one piece shaft is change of geometry and eliminate the carrier, if it can be done with shims much easier and cheaper.

Bill - I'm also lifted 4", but I agree with everyone, its the center carrier bearing geometry shift that causes this, its just interesting that I can 'tune' it out when loaded.

CarlJenson,

You can buy a shim kit at your local 4x4 shop for about $40. What I did was start with a 1/4" and then gave it try. I wound up with an inch and a half. Your truck may sit different so you may need to do a little trial and error.

From the looks of this it appears this is a problem on long bed only. Is there anyone with this problem that has a short bed?
