I wonder why the two piece design? Could 2 drivelines and the carrier assembly be cheaper than a one piece?

I really doubt that it's cheaper. I think the reason for all of the 2 piece driveshafts are for vibration dampening. I suspect a shorter driveshaft is easier to get a good balance on, and the carrier will abosorb some out-of-balance condition.

What I don't think they expected was the table spoon full of grease saved on each truck, coupled with no zerks completely drying up so soon. Once a bearing starts to sieze, the driveshaft gets so out-of-balance in the carrier that it tries to shake your eye teeth out.

Someone in another thread mentioned temperature. The tight bearing will create heat, the more heat, the more expansion, the more expansion, the tighter it gets, the tighter it gets, the more heat, etc etc

I literally pulled over in a parking lot once because I thought my driveshaft was on the ground, after limping to the shop I drove home a few hours later after everything had cooled down.

Got the truck back @ 6:30 tonight. The rear middle u-joint was the bad one. Dry as a bone inside, and no bearings left, they had been completely torn up. HAd them pack a tad bit more grease in them, and every thing runs good now. Now just waiting for the others to go bad... LOL... Thanks for all your help... Scott
