Kalaehina, Yes you can do it with the kit you have. I do it all the time to keep the CAD freed up. I get on a straight stretch of road and shift the transfer case into 4 hi, us the switch to engage disengage the front axle. You can't do that with the older BD kits. The newer kits are a little different, but I don't think they would work like you are thinking.
