Yep, I had one too. The best lawn tractor I ever had... should have kept it! I bought a John Deere with a 20HP water cooled Kawasaki about 7 years ago. It isn't near the tractor the red Cub Cadet 782 was. The CC was never in the shop the 10-12 years I had it mowing 3 acres. I sold it to a friend and it's still mowing. The JD has an electrical problem almost every year with the printed circuit board. The Kawasaki engine loves gasoline too... over $200 burned in it this year! The JD does do a much better job of mowing tall stemmy (Bahaia) grass than the CC and it has power steering and a better turning radius.
I thinking seriously about trading the JD for a Kubota diesel before next summer.

Dad said the first engine failed at 7 years due to a loose nut inside. The current one is 16 years old and starting to use oil. It's mowed an average (SWAGging here) of 2 acres per mowing. Which reminds me, my Grandpa had a Snapper (the classic type) that he mowed his 3+ acre lawn with for years, and the old one before it. I don't think it had as big a deck as this CC, but it was deeper, so if he didn't mow the 1. 5 acres behind the house (old pasture) each week, it would still mow the next. And YES, those had BRIGGS and STRATTONS on them, and they ran for years if kept up right. Cheap and easy to rebuild as well.
