Cummins Engine to lay off 200

I talked with a caterpillar employee back at the TDR nationals. This was fully expected. Cat is working on a new technology that will allow then to meet the 2007 emissions with no EGR. In the meantime they are continuing to produce engines which do not meet the current guidelines and are incurring huge fines because of it (something like between $3500-$4500 per engine). I'm sure they're slowing their production line down to a minimum to reduce their losses. Once they have the new engine ready to go they will have leap frogged the other manufacturers by meeting the 07 regs already so they'll be ahead of the game. At that point they plan on recalling those people and they will be working overtime. Like I said this is what I heard from a Cat employee back in august and falls right in line with what I've read in the news recently.
