New 5th wheel towing questions

"lifting" my 5'er

Anyone know if there are layout/design standards for RV parks? I'm looking for info on what the well laid out park has in terms of pad sizes, location of hookups, access roads (width/curvatures). In short, how should a new RV park be laid out and what is the ideal relationship betwee the size of bathrooms and the number of sites, etc?

The Trailer Life RV park evaluation sheets found in the back of their campground guide don't provide design standards.

Any sources/thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if they would be willing to release them, but someone like KOA might have some internal guidelines. Another possible source would be organizations like TACO (Texas Association of Campground Owners) or whatever their equivalent might be in other states.

If you were in Texas, I'd say go to Buckhorn or Guadalupe River RV parks in Kerrville and take some measurements - those guys absolutely got it right!

Edit: I just remembered - there's a Campground Owner's forum over on iRV2.com. You might post this question there and get some good input.

RV Park layout

May want to check with the state as some have strict standards you must comply with! jps

One of my favorite aspects of some of the new parks are the so called "comfort stations". Instead of one large restroom/shower area they have several smaller restrooms on the order of what you have at home. These are especially nice for disabled people or folks bathing children.

1 acre sites with lots of trees near the water, 50 amp service, crystal clear spring water, and a hot tub at each site, oh, and a view of the 10 Mile Range in Colorado.

Did I say "$10 per night" too.

Sounds too good to be true. DETAILS!!! :D

Eric

PS Most places around here are $35. 00-$40. 00 a night (full hookup) and some dont have cable. :(

You can find cheaper places, but you wouldnt want to camp there. The wife and I was in a campground the other day and I told her "throw it in reverse, we might have to shoot our way out". :-laf

A 30X50 is a fair sized lot here!!:D

I was dreaming about some of my requests. Tiger Run RV Resort in Breckenridge CO (see above link) comes the closest though, but not for $10. More like $35.

I was checking out your pictures. Great view. Wish it was closer, I don't have 2 weeks to take off to visit there for the weekend!

It's still quite a bargain at $35. 00.

If there was a place like that here, they'd have a waiting list for next year... . even without the awesome views.

No comparison to Ken's photo, but here's a couple of shots of Buckhorn Lake RV Resort in Kerrville, TX taken at a Texas Boomer rally last year:

And here's one at Guadalupe River RV Resort, also in Kerrville at another 2002 Texas Boomer rally:

Both of these are really nice RV parks.

flamingos

hey rusty, are those little baby pink flamingos on your hood ? I think that would be a good standard equip. for us trailer trash.

Actually, my truck is the white dually 2nd from the front in the first picture. The Driftwood 2500 belongs to Glenn Morgan, one of the Texas Boomers.

The pink flamingos are the mascot of the Texas Boomers. Someone said to one of our members that "RVers are just trailer trash", so what do you think we did? RIGHT - everyone puts out pink flamingos! ;) :D

Prarie Dog,

If like those flamingos then you would really like mine. They are whirly-gigs, their little wings spin around in the breeze. Really  and extra tacky :D .

BoomerII,

The Texas Boomers are a bunch of RVers who got together through iRV2.com. We have Boomers from all over Texas, including a number from the D/FW area. We normally try to meet in the Hill Country since that's a pretty central area for everyone to drive to. The only rules for the Texas Boomers are that there are no rules! No membership requirements. No dues. Just show up and join in the fun. More information here as well as on the iRV2.com website.

Our next rally is over the Memorial Day weekend at Alamo Fiesta RV Park in Boerne. Join us if you can!! Flamingos optional, but recommended... ;) :D

Thanks Rusty, sounds like fun. We just bought a 10. 6 Bigfoot we're picking up next week in Colorado, maybe we'll join in the fun.

10-4 on the Buckhorn Ranch in Kerrville! I have never been in a nicer, more hi-tech RV park anywhere. They did it right... ... ..... AND, are super nice folks!

MY FAVORITE PLACE: Fun Valley just outside Southfork, Co. We go every year... ... ... ... sometimes twice! Tell 'em I sent you.

This 4th of July is the first time since the camp opened (1959) That a Gospel Quartet has been allowed. We have put together a Patriotic/Gospel weekend featuring the "Jericho Road Quartet" out of Ft. Worth, Tx. It's gonna be a BLOW OUT!!!
