Leaf Spring Bushing Replacement

I have one of the leaf spring bushings(where it is mounted to the spring hanger) that is in need of repacing. It has squished out one side and it is holding the spring against the hanger and it causes an ugly squeak. I have checked the rest of them and they look like they are ok. Whats your thoughts...

I would upgrade them all to Polyurethane. The others are probably not far behind. Much better than the OE rubber. I have not done mine yet, but I'll bet it's heavy work.

Energy Suspension has some. You will need to measure the spring to see if they will work. p/n 5-2109 With 2 1/2” I. D. main eye & 2 1/2” wide spring

The only problem I have with poly-u is that it is squeaky. No doubt it is better, stonger, and last longer than rubber. IMO greasable poly-u bushings are the way to go, if possible.

Sorry, IMO is short for In My Opinion. No big deal it took me a while to get used to the lingo around here too.

Anyway, http://www.offroaddesign.com/ sells greaseable ploy-u bushings. They deal predominately with older Chevy parts, but I would imagine they would offer or can produce some to fit the back of our trucks.

I was actually thinking of checking in to this a bit more myself. If I change the rear springs I want to put on greaseable bushings at the same time. I also thought about greaseable control arm bushings.

I went thru the spring hangers on my 5th wheel and installed the greasable spring bolts. I dont see why they would not work about the same with the truck.

I have the greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings now. I have had the non-grease fitting type, and not once did I ever here a squeak from any of them. If I did, a shot of WD-40 would probably shut it up. My upper & lower control arms have non-greaseable bushings. Have not heard a squeak in 3 years. Maybe the early poly bushings had squeaking problems?

I doubt you will find greasable leaf spring bushings. I have only seen sway bar brackets have them.

ORD has greasable leaf spring bushings. Like I said they predominately deal with older Chevy items, but it not like the leaf spring bolts are Dodge specific. They currently offer 2 sizes and I'm not sure if either is the right size for our trucks. ORD is a machine show so I don't think getting the right ones, if not already offered, would be a big deal.

As far as poly squeaking, I doubt that we would ever hear it, if it is squeaking, over the noise of the great Cummins. Poly is know to squeak though, new and old. I just read an article in the new Four Wheeler where they installed a lift on a new Powerjoke and there was a comment about poly being squeaky. Maybe you are right about the quality being an issue relating to the squeak?

When I install poly bushings in my offroad jeeps I always use a bunch of Neverseize grease. Great on everything but toast.
