Okay guys, remember that I'm a real mechanical novice so explain yourself V E R Y V E R Y S L O W L Y please. :D Anyway, I noticed a leak down the passenger side under the fender. I found a black hose that attaches to the front axle on the passenger side and goes up to the the fender stopping just under the air cleaner box. The tube appears to have some type of white plastic plug (looks possibly like some kind of vent). Is this some type of vent for the front axle and if so, is it ever supposed to leak? The leak is clearly coming from this vent and running down from there. It is not enough to drip on the ground but is making a mess as it runs down.

I have not noticed this before so I'm not sure. Truck has 43,000 miles and I've never changed the front fluid. Am I on the right track or is this something totally different?

Won't say it's ok but it does happen at least a couple times to most all 4wds. Not even sure of the conditions that cause it though a side tilt to the pass side helps. Clean up the mess and don't worry about it

Same exact thing happened to mine sometime I think back in April/May 2001 time frame. Puked about a cup or less fluid. Only did it once. I have since gone to 100% synthetic oil in both differentials. Not that doing so had any bearing on this whatsoever... ... it has not puked any gear lube since that one time.

I posted this same question, many responses said it also happened to them, but only once or twice.

Be sure you keep the white plastic top breather clean, and make sure it spins freely. What happens is that it gets dirty, clogged or stuck, then the diff builds up pressure, and it has to go somewhere, the weakest link. Better out the breather tube than out one of the axle seals.

Mine, same thing. Was cause for concern. Took it to a "good" dealer in Bend, Oregon. Mechanic told me that the factory has a propensity for overfilling when new and it was common and not to worry. Wasn't even running in 4 wheel drive, but apparently heat causes is to weep. Has quit and I am relieved and I guess believe the mechanic.
