HAVE A LEAKING E/MNFLD GASKET AT 4 TH CYLINDER (FRONT TO BACK). 84 K MILES AND 5 YR AND 8 MOS OLD - ANYONE HAD A LEAKER? DID DEALER COVER W/WNTY? ALSO, ANYONE THAT HAS REPLACED WITH 3 PC MNFLD, HOW WAS FIT AND DID IT SOLVE PROBLEM OF LEAKING GASKET?

How did you detect a leak? smoke? noise?

My truck sounds strange when I jump on the throttle. Almost like what I think it would sound like if there was a gasket leak in the exhaust.

Anyone have a similar sound? Think this is a small exh leak?

mpjmpj, look for soot around any of the exhaust gaskets. The manifold could also be cracked. They are prone too shrinking and cracking.

ATS Header Exhaust leak

Hi all, couldn't get my ATS Header to seal with a gasket, and bolts kept backing out. Finally decided to go WITHOUT a gasket and crossdrilled and safety wired the bolts. Well, it lived until it died. No leak. But alas, they took the head off, found a crack at every jug. Will go sans gasket with the new Cummins 24V. Actually should be installed in OTR PU by now. I'm sitting in Lakewood, CO reloading my 70 hours clock. A new set of drives and I'll be on my way back to Angola, IN. Can't wait to get OTR PU back on the road. I'm too damned old to be sleeping in a pickup seat. (an old F350 PSD at that).

Cheers,

Steve J.

exh mnfld continued

When I first looked at mnfld, only saw soot around 4th cyl port . Well, its more than a leaky gskt, its cracked. I looked at it yesterday in the bright sunlight and there it is, bigger n ever!

When I started trk the mornin I found found the soot, I did smell exh and never connected - duh!

I just ordered an ATS myself, should be here tomorrow. Usually the gaskets are fine and a simple tightening will correct it. FYI my maifold was cracking on the under side (not through yet) but I found it when going to replace some of my old gaskets.
