Autometer Pyro probe leaking!

6.7 Fuel pressure gauge reading

I have just noticed my FASS is leaking on my garage floor. I have looked without removing and its not leaking at the lines but it looks like from around the motor area. I will pull it off to look in the morning. Is there anything prone for leaking that I need to look for?

Fass Issue?

While we are talking FASS,

My 150/150 1008, when under less than 1/2 full thank ,will have pressure drops when I am accelerating away from a dead stop. Normal pressure is 15 psi, it will drop to 4 or so then recover after a few seconds.

Yes, I cut the tube to no more than 1/4 inch from the bottom of the tank.

Is this normal for these, or do I need to check something out?

Thanks!

Paging DieselDan

I just had the same problem its leaking from the weep hole in the block the motor bolts to. call and have them warranty it.

You are correct! I pulled it down this morning and that is where it is leaking.

Mine is out of warranty I have had it about 4 years or so.

Paging Dieseldan... ... I need to get parts very quickly if all posible I am leaving for a road trip this Friday and I dont wont to have to worry about it leaving me on the side of the road. Thanks for your help!

If you wish to do all the seal replacement yourself..... i can get you the o-rings... but i ask you contact a FASS dealer to get this taken care of as we dont sell retail.

AS for your leaking shaft seal, go to NAPA and request the following Part numbers:

CR-3101 (Buna... . go with this one if all you run is diesel..... WAY easier to find. )

CR-3103 (Viton)

Motor to base bolts 75 in/lbs.

NOTE: I only suggest this for someone that understands their pump is totally out of wnty from our stand point. Any pump that is still under wnty, we like to do the seal change. Your pump didn't have a wire seal due to age... but to anyone else reading this, if you have the wire seal, and its cut... you just took your wnty into your own hands... ... OK... PSA done! :)

Thanks for the quick reply! I called Scott at MassDiesel to get the motor exchange so I can get the new 4 year warranty. I will hope it will be here before Friday, again Thanks.

One more question, afew months ago you told me to get a 1901-625-5939 --- 5/8" Buna Ball 90 Duro due to a very hard to prime pump is that ok to use with bio-fuel?

Yea, your not alone! Mine just dies at about a 1/3 of a tank, last I heard there "working on a fix"

I run mine 'til the low fuel light comes on... I cut the Draw Staw about 30' angle and low part sits on the bottom of the tank. Although I haven't had any pressure drops, I have thought about taking a 3' or 4' piece of pvc pipe 1/2 to 1/3 the depth of the tank, attach it to the draw straw tube by drilling holes into endcap on top of pvc, drill 3 to 4 ea 1/4" holes at the bottom to feed fuel into it from the tank and run the return fuel into it. If I add weight to it, to would act similar to stock setup, except flow better. Not gonna do this for a while, but think it will work

Yes... . we are looking at other options for the STK-1001... . but you have to understand where we are coming from that we don’t want to make a suction tube kit that adds $150. 00 to the cost of the kit. We are trying to find a balance of price and the ability of running fuel down to the bottom of the tank without being super complex. These things don’t happen overnight.

With our STK-1001 kits, I don’t suggest doing any stop and go driving with a ¼ tank. Too much sloshing. BUT as for hwy miles, it should be a little more tolerable since you are driving in a straight line and the fuel is more stable in the tank.

We are looking at some options that return and draw from the same location... same as the stock setup... ... This would help with sloshing issues.

Had I been told I would lose fuel capacity before I bought this "fuel upgrade" I wouldn't have a gripe, notice I never complain about this fuel pump that is louder then my truck, yes if my truck is running the first thing you hear is the FASS. But I was told before I agreed to it that they were very loud, hey I can deal with that!

Do you remember telling me you had never heard of this before and it must have been installed wrong? If I could submit the bill I incurred to have the tank pulled just to confirm it was installed correct would I be re-paid? IMO at this point price for the correct parts to make this system work correctly is your problem not mine! Do you now list this kit with a * that this kit may cause you to lose fuel capacity? I didn't think so  At least do that and say well for an extra $200 or whatever we will provide a modified/custom pickup assembly, then it is back on the customer to choose!

You are correct BUT, should you need to slow down or turn or god forbid stop at a stop sign to get to the fuel station you'd be dead in the water :{

Wow... I was just gonna start a new thread about a leaking FASS... what a coincidence. Mine however seems to be leaking where the return goes from the FASS back to the tank. I pulled the fitting and spring and switched the brass two piece to a one piece, and replaced the o-ring, but it didn't fix the leak. Oh by the way its a 150/180-1010 @45psi. Any suggestions?

Dan, in another thread, you spoke about the bypass being plugged by debris and that causing pressure fluctuation when accelerating.

My installation of ,y 150/150/ 1008 was about 4 months ago and I am wondering if this may be why I have the pressure the pressure fluctuations below 1/2 tank or so... When my pump is running, I hear what sounds like an interruption in the fuel return as it is not just a steady return when the truck is running at idle is that normal?

Is there a way I can clean the bypass check valve myself?

Thanks,

Bill

WELL... that is a HPFP issue... not a FASS issue. So cleaning the by-pass check ball wouldn’t apply to you.

That kit doesn't require a Suction Tube Kit. So unless you have an in-tank pump, you should be pulling from the stocking sending unit.

As far as noise, its normal to hear the system "Stutter" or "Gurgle" about every 10 seconds or so. This is air being built up in the water separator that is being sucked into the pump once it overcomes the water separator nipple. This is normal and will happen more frequently when you have a lower tank due to the fuel sloshing around.

Dan, thanks but, I do have a pickup tube that I had to drill an opening in the tank to install. Maybe I have my model number wrong, but it is a dual filter 150/150 unit.

SO, the question still is why am I getting fuel pressure fluctuation when below 1/2 tank and accelerating from a dead stop.

I reallly like this unit! Also, The pressure fluctuation is not a major concern, as I know the CP3 does not need positive pressure. I am just anal about things working correctly.

Thanks for your time and willingness to answer questions...

Cheers, Bill
