Leaking fuel before 2000 mile trip, Help

Im leaving for Colorado tomarrow and was just going over my truck. I noticed that I had a few droplets of fuel on my draglink (or swaybar?). After further investigation I found that around all of my injectors it appears to be wet. Not soaked. The next item down from there is a large aluminum color square box w/two wireharnesses plugging into it and it appears that this is wet also. Should I be ok to take this trip?



For what its worth I also noticed these droplets about 5000 miles ago when I changed my fuel filter but assumed it was from draining the fuel canister. And yes I checked to make sure the draincock was closed.

If it was me ,I wouldnt go until I knew where the leak was. Try cleaning up everything as good as you can, then with the engine running see if you can see any leak. Make sure the seal around the filter is tight. If you can find anything, I would be a the dealers doors first thing in the morning. Best of luck, Jim

Ok I think I found it !! On the back side of the injection pump there is a fuel line comming straight out the back that has some kind of double fitting. It is the most wet of anywhere else, it also has the only droplet of fuel dangiling. Besides the wet injectors this is the highest place fuel is comming from.



Ok heres the problem , I want to tighten the fittings but there are two other fuel lines with banjo type bolts that go to the top and side of the injection pump that are in the way. Can I move these ??



One last thing , I have never seen any drips on my floor . Like I said its just wet w/ an occasional droplet. Its not like its spraying all over . Should I still not go ?

Never work on your truck the night before vacation (I know why first hand). There are only two lines feeding the pump, feed and return. I did not understand your description of the location of the leak. I have read reports of other CP-3s seeping. There are other posts about it. Mine has been seeping since October, at least thats when i first noticed it. I took it in to dealer on Monday and they put dye in the tank and tightned the three mounting bolts on the back of the pump. Star would not let them replace it. I don't think you'll have any problem on your trip other than a little film under the hood from the seeping. If you have the proper tools you could try snugging the three mounting nuts.

It wont take much to tighten the fitting. Maybe a off set pliers or a crows foot wrench. I dont think I would move those other lines. I really havent looked at my new pump. My last two CTD had different fueling systems. If you feel OK with driving it, maybe put a piece of cloth (like a sock) around the fitting. Take it for a drive. This should show you the amount of fuel your leaking

I was able to squeeze a wrench in there without having to move the lines . I gave the fitting a good 1/4 of a turn before bumping into the other lines that I mentioned above. It felt like it got tight so I am much more comfortable now. Espically since You guys are saying that has happened to others in the past. (this seeping)

Briman, I hear what your sayin about workin on your truck the night before, but I wasnt thinkin I would run into this. I was doing the normal stuff like changing out my oil filter, greasing the front end and rechecking the nuts on my exhaust clamps and hangers. along w/topping off fluids.

Is he talking about the high pressure line from the CP-3 to the rail?

Yes he is, thats a common leak, some need the line to be replaced, others were just never tightened properly it appears.
