2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Leaking Fuel @ tank

My 96 is leaking fuel at the tank. have not been under yet to take a look, has anyone had this problem?

If it leaks fuel at or near full only then it is probably the large plastic nut the holds the fuel sender and hose assembly in the tank. It may just be loose. You can access it with a long screwdriver by looking over the frame rail under the fender. Give the nut a few licks with the long screwdriver and a hammer on one of the lugs. See if that helps.



If that slows it up but does not stop it, then you need a new gasket.

actually leaks while running on a near empty tank. Tank itself has fuel all over it as though it's been slow leaking quite some time

I have not had that problem. It is probably a leak in a hose or pipe on the top of the tank. Anyone else have any idea?

Search for fuel canister. There is a GOOD thread about rebuilding the fuel canister and lines.

Mine was leaking fuel from the steel lines going into the fuel canister. I ended up cleaning them up really well with brake cleaner then using JB Weld to completely cover them.

There is a thread tht does the input / output rebuild. I just ordered 2 cnc fittings for the cannister input and output from CStewart.



I am still playing with getting the fuel lines like I want them. Thw OEM is little more than the last 2 feet or so.

Doesn't someone make a 60 gallon replacement that goes in the same location probably comes with all hardware. Does anybody know the price of such a unit?

Mine was a chaffed return line. . the plastic protector has slid down the frame and let the lines rub the fram rail. the tank looked dry at shut down with just the stain left.

It's back. . I noticed a drop in fuel pressure and inspected the side of my fuel tank. It appears that the return line is spraying again.



Does anyone have a good solution to repairing this line? I epoxy/cold welded it shut and got a good 3weeks/1000 miles out of it.



A new line is an option or something aftermarket?!? I couldn't easily adapt the fittings to -AN or I would have gone that route already.

Move the return line to the tank vent line.



AN-6 line and a couple of hose clamps and a T at the tank vent line. Helps to keep the heat out of the fuel feed as well.

I'll check that out. It'll be a few weeks before the bed comes off again. Fuel pressure was stable today. . I dunno what the deal is sometimes.

Fuel line clips

To all who have to remove fuel lines from the tank. My lines where very rusty, thanks to Michigan winters (sure the snow plow doesn't help) so I had to break the clips in little pieces to detach the lines from the canister. The dealer does not sell replacment clips only entire new fuel line. Found them at my local Napa GM/Chrysler.

When I was working full time and had lots of money I took my 96 to (ugh!) Dodge and they dropped the tank and found the return line leaking--replaced it and all ok so far (3 years)
