In the year that I have owned the truck, I have replaced the right rear grease seal twice (leaked when I bought the truck) and it is still leaking. The left grease seal was replaced once when I changed the rear brakes and it does not leak. Has anyone else run into this problem? What kind of seal should I use? The ones that I got were from Auto Zone.

I have problems with my right rear seal because my truck was stolen a few years back and the seal surface was damaged. I have to use a repair sleeve to give the seal a good surface to ride on. Still I've had a lot of problems with Napa seals and I've found several to be defective. National seals resemble Napa seals and neither will last long on the right side in most cases. I am using CR (Chicago Rawhide) seals now and haven't had one go bad yet.
Good luck.

I have also had a problem with the rear seals. It's such a pain changing the brakes every time. Rodney sounds like he got the seal and sleave kit from NAPA that will help to fix the leak. The sleave slips over the axle tube and is glued into place. This will give the new seals a non grooved surface to run on. I still have to get the kit and install it, so far on my 5th set of seals. I replaced all the wheel bearings thinking that the bearings were worn and causing the seal to rub and wear out abnormally. The sleave and seal kit seems like the fix. If you need, I posted a question about this on the old CDW website, maybe you can search those archives under Dana 70 seals I think.

I also had a problem with my left rear seal leaking on a dana 70 and replaced it 2x and it still leaked. Then I found the vent tube plugged where it is tapped in to the axle housing. Cleaning this port with a wire and an air hose to clear the rubber tube solved the problem with out haveing to change the seal again.
