Leaking injectors

I searched the archives re leaking injectors. I could not find an answer there.

Traveling NC to OR and injectors leaking damp at first and now about a 1/2 cup.

Can the injectors be tightened to stop the leak till I get back to OR?

Will new copper washers stop the leaks?

I have a 1997 2wd 2500 5 speed pulling 13 k fifth wheel.

If I can make it home I would replace with 215 injectors rather than 185 injectors.

Your assistance will be appreciated.

Is it leaking where the injector line connects to the injector? If so have the injectors been replaced recently?

The injectors have not been changed, and they are the originals that came when I bought the truck three years ago.

I am trying to locate exactly where the leak is originating. I spray washed the engine this morning so that I could see if there is a trail. All the injectors have been moist for a while, but the amount of fuel on the ground in the morning has been increasing this trip.

Could the leak be the fuel return hose or do you know it is all coming from the injectors? You can try to snug them up but it is pretty uncommon for them to just start leaking.

With the 215 p7100 you should have 215 injecotrs.

New injectors washers should help if that is where it is leaking.

But it seems your are leaking somewhere else the injectors should not leak any fuel overnight. Should only leak when engine running.

Are you having trouble starting truck?

The injectors have always been a little moist. Thought it might be oil dripping from the valve covers, but it is diesel and not as heavy as the oil. The return lines are dry.

I will look also for another source since it should only leak when running. In the drip pan underneath, i started to get about a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of fuel.

No difficulty starting. Starts right up.

It's not likely the copper washers are the source of the fuel. Those washers mostly seal in the combustion pressure.

If you can see fuel dampness on the injector bodies and around the injectors on the head, the fuel lines are most likely loose. Tighten them good and snug: man tight, not gorilla tight. If they turn with less than about 10# force, they're way loose. Use the right size metric open-end wrench and your hands; it's all I've ever needed on mine. And bring the wrench with you so you can tighten 'em some more if needed.
