Well its off to the dealer tomorrow for the following after coming back from Togwotee towing the 3 place enclosed trailer:

1. Oil everywhere on the drivers side block, bell housing and spots all the way to the rear diff and axle. Leaving about a 3" puddle at night. Not sure if its the gasket or a crack in the block. :--)

2. Leaking valve cover on number 4,5,6.

So how many of us have had this same thing happen with only 23,000 miles on the old ETH?

3. And the famous ultra strong lid hinges on the center console!!!

Should I get the cold weather flash done? I have read some conflicting reports and never have come to a conslusion.

Oil leaks that poor oil like that out are certainly not caused from the type of oil. It sounds like serious mechanical damage to the seals or like he said a crack or something similar.

He is on his way to long engine life with Premium Blue oil. I used it for the first 100K or so and then went back and forth between Rotella T and it for the last 100K.

200k on dino and still going strong.

update

Well I got a new valve cover gasket.

They put some die in the oil to see where its coming from so after I tow this weekend I guess we will see.

Ordered a new lid for the console.

Not sure on the cold weather flash, my service writer was gone when I got there to pick it up.

I got to thinking today that at my last fuel filter change I spilled a lot of fuel out the drain valve when it stuck open all down that side, I wonder if the pan gasket doesnt take to kindly to diesel?

update

Well here is an update.

After a couple weeks with the die in the oil and two trips back to the dealer I am the proud parent of a brand new oil pan gasket!!

I also had the cold weather ramp up reflash preformed, my milage has come back up a little bit but it has not been cold enough for the thing to work, knock on wood... ... still have a studder while pulling:(

It was a 6-8hr job replacing the gasket. Ouch... .

I noticed some oil on the heads of the front pan bolts. I tightened them a bit and lost the blow-by bottle. Time will tell if this helped or if the gasket is failing. The blow-by bottle may have been the culpret, but the fact that I could tighten the bolts a little could mean it's coming out of the pan.

By the way, I'm on my 5th (I think) console box. Great hinge tabs! I put some silicone lube on the newest one in an effort to make this the last one. So far, no creaking noises (the tell-tale sign of cracking).

Update

Just checked it the other day - those front bolts are dry now. Could have been the tightening, or the absence of the puke bottle that solved my problem. Oo.

FWIW, the front bolts having oil on the probably was your puke bottle. The oil pan usually leaks from the back, basically the area where the pans depth increases. The factory was supposed to use sealant there and didn't. The TSB for that is 09-006-01. Just had my pan gasket replaced with sealant.

leak

I checked my oil pan the other day and it's leaking around the rear . I also have a slight leak at the power steering pump. I hate like hell to bring it to the dealer but I guess I have to. I'm still within the warranty period at about 25k. :{

i have the pan gasket leak also:confused: not bad yet but will have it taken care of soon. also have the pump leak and looks like it could be a seal around the shaft if you look from underneath.
