Leaking rear axle seals from brake job?

OK. Just had a brake job done and now I have gear oil leaking out of both rear wheels. Went out of town for a few days and left the truck at home. Pulled in the drive tonight and there is a small puddle of gear oil at the inside of each back wheel. Also saw it scattered on the tires so it was leaking when I was driving too. What did he do to cause it? Or could it be a coincidence (doubtful I think with both seals leaking)?

Greatful for any advice.

Any chance they overfilled the diff? The fill spec is . 5" below the bottom of the hole. If the seals are good it still shouldn't leak, but if the seals were getting old they might leak if it's overfilled. Also, if it's leaking on both sides, (and it is) check to see that the vent isn't plugged. Maybe it was disturbed during the brake job.

HOKAY how did their working on the brakes affect the axle seals?? I get nervous when the seals leak since the last time I found a floating axle nut and a bearing that had galled the back side of it. Replacing the rear bearings, seals and retorquing the nuts isn't too bad a job. Better done before major damage than after!!

If it's any consolation, I'll be doing my drivers side rear seal tomorrow morning. Gotta go get the seal today if anyone in town has it.

Sounds like they pulled the hubs to true the rotors... then damaged the seals reinstalling the hubs...

I've been running well over the factory full mark for around 10k now... no leaks... the only way an oil seal should leak is if the vent plugs or the seal is damaged...

I guess they must have boogered up the seals taking off the rotors though I don't know how. A brake job was all they did. I don't know enough to go tell the guy he caused the problem but I have never had a leak before. For them both to go right after he worked on it is too much... isn't it? Just want to make sure before I go chew the guy out. Do I need to top off the diff before I drive 15 miles to the shop?

I would check it, but it probably hasn't dropped much... a little gear oil leaking looks like a great big mess.
