Truck died on freeway - makes no sense...

My steering gear input shaft seal has been leaking ever since I cranked the wheels with the engine off a few months ago. Also, my pitman arm is worn resulting in the ususal slop. Should I R&R the pitman arm and seal or, given the age of the truck and its appetite for steering components, replace the steering gear?

If it were me I would replace the seal as I have read here it's pretty straight forward.

I also have read that many are not happy (to say the least) with rebuilt steering boxes.

You'll require the correct gear ratio gear box.

If you do the seal, it isn't much of a job. The arm? I know it requires the puller to remove it. You'll have to find one to borrow or buy. I don't know if there is a method to remove it with a big hammer and a bottle jack or not.

There used to be a sticky post that gave specific direction to R&R the stub shaft seal along with the seal kit part # from Mopar. It's the same gear box used on tons of GM trucks as it's made by *Saginal*??? I think.

I copied the post by Pastor B and saved it to paper. It may have the link to finding it here.

My rebuilt box from Advance Auto is doing fine after about 15kmiles. Seems as though some are good, some are bad.
