leaking tailshaft yoke

Happy 4th to all! We had better enjoy this day and what it means while we are able (allowed to)! Now the question: My beast of burden is slinging oil out the back of the tail shaft yoke on the back of the transfer case. Is there any fix except replace the yoke? Is this common? Thanks, guys!! Happy 4th to you as well. Just got done watching a nice display of fireworks from the back porch. Its possible that it just needs a seal, but most likely caused by a universal starting to go. A slight vibration over time will wipe a seal out. When you go to replace the seal, check all u joints to make sure they move freely in all directions

d4life, yeah, we thought it was the seal, too, and installed one. The old seal was not leaking, even though the cover was starting to crack. The trans oil is coming out the back of the yoke, as evidenced by where the oil is being slung. The ujoints (original) all felt fine. Mark

I am not sure about the newer rigs or the Dodge, but the older trucks used a soft plug to seal the yoke splines. Maybe you can fix it?

I had the same problem. Cleaned all of the oil out of it and dried it out with some solvent. Then used some silicone to seal it. That was 3 years ago and hasn't leaked since.
