I have a '98 12 valve and there is an oil leak from the back of the vacuum pump. I bought a 38 mm od. 28 mm id. 7mm thick viton seal to replace the leaking one but I was unable to remove the vacuum pump. I removed the oil supply line, the vacuum line, and the 2 bolts holding it in but I could not get it to slide out. It seems like the drive gear is holding it in. Any help would be appreciated. Also if you know of any other seals or gaskets I should get or any other surprises to know about.

there is three bolts that hold the the two pumps on two on the front off the vac pump and one on the back side off the power steering pump,it is very close to the oil sending unit also you will have to unplug the wire harness from it at least to get it buy it.

Just wondering, does the vaccum pump support any of the engines function, not just brakes, etc? does a diesel need vaccum to run right?

I found the hidden bracket that connects the front of the power steering pump to the block. Took the pump out and replaced the seal. First I had to separate the two parts that are pressed together. It looks like it is holding. Time will tell.

***If anyone needs one of these seals for their vacuum pump I have two extra they only came in lots of three. ***
