I have an '03 HO CTD. It's hard to start, but runs fine. It often will want to crank and crank, and my rail pressure gauge reads low rail pressure at startup. I went to a Cummins service center (we are lucky to have one here) and the manager let me work with the tech to figure out what the problem was. No codes on the Smarty.

I had replaced the lift pump, it's not the FCA, and probably not the CP3. To cut tothe chase, we disconnected and capped off injector #1 and it started right up (a dozen times in a row). Reconnected #1 and it wouldn't start.

So I think the injector is leaking and the rail won't pressurize. As mentioned, it runs fine on the freeway, plenty of power.

Should I buy Dynomite injector nozzles? The whole injector? Or is there a better brand and who to buy from? I don't tow, and run the Smarty on level 4, so for my application, the power level is generally fine. I am assuming that I ought to do all 6 and not just the known bad one?

I am open to suggestions.

There is a chance bad fuel caused this problem. It started happening a month after I got a bad tank of diesel. I emptied about 20 gallons out of the tank and went through 3 filters.

Thanks in advance.

The only brand is bosch, you should get all the injectors tested, then decide if you want bigger nozzles who's you will use.

I have Flux 1s from Don, they seem to be doing the trick...

When I needed to replace them, it was a toss up whether to use Industrial Injection, Dynomite Diesel Performance, or Formula 1 Diesel... I chose F1 simple because he was close and the guy doing the R&R had a business relation with F1 already.

Don't buy new injectors unless you absolutely need to...
