1996 47RE Transmission dipstick Oil Leak
I haven’t seen this problem posted on the TDR site by anyone and I wonder why. When I had transmission work done the mechanics doing it complained of a leaky pan gasket. They even replaced the gasket trying to fix the leak. I too went after the leak and even replaced the oil pan to try to fix it. I finally traced the oil leak to the dipstick O-ring seal. When I found the problem I tried to fix it by increasing the number of O-rings, using packing, and any number of rube Goldberg fixes. None would contain the ATF+4 transmission fluid. In desperation I went to my local Dodge dealer and we did a search on dipsticks. Seems that Dodge did come up with a new dipstick and a square ring compression seal without issuing a notice. In looking at my oil soaked label the best I do to come up with a number is 5211862 Rev 173331. Hope it’s right if not someone out there correct the number. Hope this helps someone out there avoid my oil-stained driveway.
