Some lessons you just have to learn more than once, I guess. Either that, or I'm just a total idiot. Here's the lesson:

Check the shipping costs!

First time I learned it I ended up paying $20 for a clevis and $45 to have it shipped because it was so heavy.

Second time I learned it was last night. Won an auction on a Dake #0 arbor press for $50. 99. Sounds awesome, except that there's a "load-out fee" of $100! #@$%! [Seller's about 30 minutes from me so I'm trying to work it out with them].

Again, please if you use Ebay read EVERY LETTER in the Ad!

Yeah, you gotta watch the shipping, check this out, got this deck of cards of eBay got them today in the mail. They were given out on the 25 year anniversary of Bertram Yachts in 1985, still in the origional wrapper, pretty cool, how many do you think are still around?

Shipping can be a killer. And sometimes when the deal goes bad EBAY will resolve,e. g get your purchase price recovered, but you can/wil be on your own regarding recovering shipping costs.

Each seller seems to set shipping costs/method on their own, so you have to be aware and informed before you put in your bid!!!

make sure the seller will ship it to you if you don't live in the usa...

they have listed on their ad will ship worldwide at the top, but at the bottom it states will only ship to usa... i managed to resolve that one with the seller so i only burned my pride [i offered to cover the cost of relisting it after we discussed the matter, but he politely refused and we parted ways with both leaving positive feedback]

i love living in canada, but getting anything up here is like we are in the middle of no where. . shipping across the border is always super expensive, and duty  charges can get high, and most everything on ebay is ship to usa only :(

Does that work both ways? I bought a used Palm from a guy in Canada about 4 years ago and the freight was reasonable.

I usually list my items to ship in the USA only because I don't know what it takes to ship to Canada. Maybe I should check into it so I don't leave you guys out :)

Ebay ebay- The last 3 months have been really tough on there.

I've been on ebay since 1998 and have over 300 positives now and 100% feedback.

About 6 months ago i started selling surplus auto parts from a city auction i bought. Made over 2k dollars in 2 months. Not bad for going to school and ebaying stuff by myself. I had perfect luck, no deadbeat bidders at all.

Well the last 3 months, ebay has gone sour on me. First, I bought some alcoa rims for my dads 2nd gen, came damaged, and i got my money back through the CC after seller didnt want to work with me. He sued (might remember the post i wrote about it), and we went to court and waiting for decision by mail. Recently, I had 2 deadbeat bidders who both got negatives. I bought one steeda clutch cable for my 5. 0 mustang and the seller had 5 feedback and had 60 brand new steeda items up, waited for a week to send payment since I lost his address, lucky i did, everything was a scam and 20 people lost money. Now, i bought a cobra spoiler for my mustang and paid through paypal with CC. Guy never sent product, called him on the phone and he said sorry it was his friends stuff and he would refund me, no refund yet. Hopefully paypal will give me the money back, if not the CC will... .

Be careful on ebay. Also, do not bid unless the seller wrote something about shipping costs. Ask before bidding. I always use the shipping calculator on my auctions... I normally charge a 4-5. 00 handling fee per auction to cover ebay fees, my time, packing, and paypal fees. .

I do remember your thread Erik. Sure sucks. :(

Be careful with computer programs, too.

My sister bought a program for her computer one time. It wound up being a copy (was supposed to the full version) of the demo version, with a "cheat code" to make it the full version. She did manage to get her money back. They didn't want the disc back. It is sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

I have purchased a few items off of Ebay. No problems, so far. Haven't sold anything on there yet.
