I am a relatively new TDR member. I got on here and done a lot of reading before i bought my ctd. I have a 96 f350 powerstroke and traded a 02 2500 srw duramax to my new ctd. I never sought high performance with my f350 just drove it. The duramax was a different story. Anyways, the ctd with the auto is a different beast. It seems to me that the engine has tons of power but it doesnt get to the ground. I have read on here about transmission failure and I really like the power that is possible. Is my trans slipping if not how long will it last in current config? What is needed to contain the beast that lies under the hood? Also, how much will it cost to do? Does it mean upgrades to mine or exchange entire transmission and what are the warranty issues. My truck only has 3700 miles.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Jim

I just traded my 2004. 5 48RE for a 2005 6 speed for this exact reason. When I priced the cost of a low stall converter (will put more power to the ground at lower rpm's) and a new valve body and installation I was about 1/2 way to the lost depreciation on my truck. So I got out of the 48RE and even though I had a rought start with the G56 6 speed, I have no regrets... .

I due to an accident cannot drive a standard shift of any kind no matter how easy the clutch is. Just have to drive an auto from now on. Getting a standard shift is not an option for me. Thanks though.

If you're looking to win the "Stop Light Grand Prix" with a stock 48RE then you'll need to do "something" about the bottom gear ratio: it's about 2nd gear in a manual...

Sorry -- Didn't mean to not be constructive.

The good news is there are lots of upgrade options for the 48RE. I'd just get a low stall torque converter and better valve body. I think you'd be pleased.

There is a ton of information here from guys here on this forum who have upgraded and are happy with their choices. Do some searching and reading and take it from there.

Good luck!

Some people are happy with just upgrading the valve body and TC and have been lucky, but if your going to do it and keep the truck do it right and do the whole thing. Every after market trans manufacturer has his or her tricks, just do the research with the seach tool or call all the companies.
