Has anyone ever changed thier cloth interior to leather?

My cloth 96 interior is starting to look a little old.

Would a headliner, seats & carpet change get the new truck smell back?

Any suggestions would help.

I live in the Chicago area.

If your going to do it, look for a set at a junk yard. If you try to buy em from a dealer you will keel over from shock when you hear the price...

My Dad had a rip in the side of one of his leather seats on his 98. 5. The dealer said. . $950 for the seat bottom. . he put some duct tape on it and all is well, other than its kind of ugly now. I would think a good set of seat covers would help, maybe some wet okleys... have a look at this thread:

The other thing you can do to your seats is to take them apart and put a piece of carpet and some more foam in them.

JR2,

Did you not mention $$$$$$ for a reason?

Seriously, what did they cost you?

Did you only do the front seat?

My other thought was the top & trim shop in town. Just drop off the truck, have them stich up a great interior, complete with rugs & headliner, then pick it up after its done.

Does anyone know where a complete interior can be bought to compare prices.

JR2, your Big C, interior looks great.

Thank You,

I just had my 97 done. It was stock leather, so I wanted to keep it that way. A local upholstery shop ordered the seat covers (custom, I selected the colors) from a manufacturer. The shop owner said he often changes cloth to leather for dealers. It included new padding. I also had him do the carpet and the center console (also leather). $1700. 00.

rwhitney,

Where did you get it done? I have a choice of 2 or 3 local guys now. I'll get bids from each when I get back from my 5th yr. anniversary honeymoon trip. It would be nice to find someone who had this conversion done.

I'm thinking of an update. The new heated seats sound awfully good for the winter drives home. Does anyone have them?

I bought all six pieces of leather for the front and rear seats from a member here for about $200. and installed them in our '98 myself. It's not all that difficult to do. None of the trucks have OEM leather headliners and there's only the small pieces in the doors so the seats are all that need doing to look good and get the smell and feel.

My '01. 5 has heated seats and they're OK, but only for the first few minutes. Even my wife turns hers off pretty quick. I wouldn't spend much just to add them.
