Anybody figure out how to disable the FOB circuitry, such that you can leave the truck running and take the FOB with you and lock it.

Coming from a Ford, somebody figured out that if you pulled a pin out of a connector under the dash, you could leave the key in the ignition with it running, take the FOB with you and lock the truck with the FOB. Ensures you return to a running truck, not an empty parking spot.

Do mean the key fob? I do that all the time in the winter. You can leave it running and lock it with the keyless entry fob. It dosn't honk when its running, but it locks and unlocks like usual.

Yep, I carry the other "smart" key with me. Just in case! Never had to use it though, yet! Give me enough time and I'll leave the Key and fob on the seat. :)

But wouldn't you be worried someone would just smash the window and drive off? How about a cool down timer set to a non reachable temperature, that way you can take the keys and lock the steering.

SSage, you got it!

I don't leave mine running when in town that much. Mostly when on the ranch, etc. I don't worry about anybody stealing it. No body wants a "work truck" and insurance will take care of it should something happen. I hope nothing happens, but I pay insurance for many reasons. :-{}

Isn't that how you get a nice new SUV. Drive around a upscale neighbor hood at 7AM and to find one running in the drive way. Just get in and drive away! SNOKING

Insurance might get dicey if they find out the keys were in it and it was running when stolen. But that is "IF" they find that out!

On my '99 2500, I can pull the ignition key out with the engine running, lock it with the the fob and unlock with the key. The fob won't unlock it! However, on my '01 fob works great both ways. It is most comforting, however, to have an extra key accessible if you respect Murphy's Laws!

When it's cold or whatever and I go in the gas station, or if it's hot and I have my dog in the car, I'll lock the truck with the extra keyless and the truck running. I too get paranoid about someone breaking the window and driving off. The 120lb rottweiler in the back seat may be a SLIGHT deterrent tho :-laf

i lock my keys in the truck while it is running all the time. i keep the fob on its own ring on my caribeaner and then i can ake it with me and let the truck run for a bit. the horn does not honk, but the lights blink. also have no problem with unlocking it.

its an 04. 5 if that helps.

Same here, no horn, but it still works

mine works well too... i can leave it running and lock the doors with the fob and unlock them that way too... i do have a cheepo non smart spare key in my wallet that will open the door if i manage to lock myself out... so as long as i have my pants on [with wallet in pocket], i can get in...

Here in Michigan it is illegal to leave your vehicle running unattended with a key in the ignition. That basically means you need to use a remote starter (so there's no key), or cool down timer of some sort. If the insurance company finds out the key was in the ignition, which they could easily if the vehicle is recovered, they may not honor your claim. :{

Wow, I never even think to lock the doors when I leave it idle and run into a store or something. One thing that's nice about small town Montana living. And you guys are worried about someone breaking your windows? Yikes... . I probably have forgotten to lock my doors overnight half a dozen times or so, and still come out in the morning to a back seat full of tools.

I also decided to go with a remote starter, had it for about 2-3 years with no problems and only paid around $200. Just set the remote starter, take the keys and lock the doors. If someone decides to take it for a ride without the key, as soon as they hit the brake pedal to shift it into drive, the truck automatically shuts off. Its great also in the winter time to give it that 5-10 min warm up.
