This is a real novice towing question for the experts...

If you're not towing do you leave the Prodigy plugged in? I just wired mine in this afternoon and noticed that the 2 dots lighted on the front with no key in the ignition. So if the truck sat for a while with the controller connected would it drain the battery?

Not to worry, after about 10 minutes of no brake activity the Prodigy will time out and shut itself off. Sarge

Yup, what Sarge said. Here's another tip - you should disconnect the trailer wiring harness before testing the breakaway brake. Apparently, this can destroy the controller.

Thanks for the quick replies! After I first posted I went back outside and checked and, sure enough, the Prodigy's lights were off.

Gotta love this site when working on truck projects. Get stuck on something and then come and post a question and get a quick answer so that the project can get finished!

if you leave it plugged in it will remember your last settings also, with no drain. I remove mine to guard against theft. you never know what mite be the next DEMAND item in a thief's mind.

Jordan says the same thing, so I asked him about it. I have once or twice gone around a real tight corner, and had a bike laying on the breakaway cable, causing it to unplug and lock up the brakes (at 4:30am as I was leaving for a long trip :( ). He said if the brake away battery is wired backwards, it will blow up the controler. Guess the people in the RV world don't have to worry about this as the battery ground is also the camper ground, which is also the truck ground. No other way to hook it up because of our charging systems, but I guess you could hook up a dry cell backwards as they don't connect into the truck charging system.
