It's been in the teens all this week. I plug the truck in when I get home from work, though it's on a timer to kick on at 3AM. I usually leave around 6AM. It's enough that the grid heater doesn't even kick on.

I always have and always will plug my block heater in as soon as I get home and leave it on all night, never any problems. I don't think it as hard on your electric to maintain warmth as it is to create it from freezing. Cause I remember I used to plug it in in the A. M. a couple hours before work and it threw my breaker a couple times. I have an older friend who had a trucking company for years and he told me to leave it plugged in like that. Don't notice too much of a hit on the bill but it is a little more.

Do you have other things on the same circuit? If not the truck heater should never trip a breaker.

In theory there is a little less power when the heater is warm, but the difference is going to be very small.

I live in the Northwest Territories, Canada. I have my 06 on a timer, starts about 3am. I also have a remote start installed. Today it was -26c and my truck, not pluged in started fine. Lets it warm up for 10 minutes or so and good to go. I think it is about 6 to 700 watts on the block heater, should not be a problem on a 15 to 20 amp breaker.
